Qetaifan Island North (QIN), a large-scale project consisting of an ultra-modern waterpark, luxury hotels, and high-end facilities, is the first offering by the Qetaifan Projects development company. One of Luxury Lifestyle Awards’ proud winners, QIN is ready to welcome football fans and tourists in time for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Qetaifan Projects’ COO, Hesham Sharaf, spoke to LLA about the iconic development.
LLA: Thank you for your time. Can you please tell us about your background?
Hesham Sharaf: I was appointed as the COO of Qetaifan Projects in 2017 and I oversee the company’s daily operations and the development management of QIN. Over the past eight years, I have worked for several government institutions in Qatar, and as a real estate development and investment advisor. I am also a member of the American Urban Land Institute and CFA Institute.
LLA: What was the inspiration behind QIN?
Hesham Sharaf: The project was fuelled by the need for an internationally renowned landmark in Qatar, which needed to ready before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
LLA: The project is inspired by the rich culture and nature of Qatar. Can you explain this in more detail?
Hesham Sharaf: The water park is inspired by the discovery of oil in Qatar. One of the main attractions is the iconic island, which is a representation of an oil rig – it has an 80-metre slide!
LLA: And how sustainable is the project?
Hesham Sharaf: QIN is a GSAS-certified, walkable island, while all marine life was taken into consideration during its development.
LLA: 2022 is going to be a landmark year for Qatar – your country will be hosting the FIFA World Cup, the largest international event in the region’s history. How will QIN accommodate tourists and fans?
Hesham Sharaf: It boasts a luxury beach hotel with 350 rooms and 10 chalets operated by Rixos International. QIN also has temporary accommodation in the form of floating hotels provided by Admares; the world leader in alternative real estate.
